  • Review Courses Required by Admissions - Common Questions about Physical Assessment and the 3Ps (click for expanded text)
    • Based on your individual academic history at the time of acceptance, your Enrollment Coordinator may notify you that you need to complete an additional course as part of the FNU program of study.

      - MSN Students -  FNU Admissions requires an undergraduate or graduate-level general health assessment course. MSN applicants who have NOT successfully completed an acceptable physical assessment course will have N400 - Health Assessment incorporated into their program of study and will take the course at FNU. The course must be a three (3) credit undergraduate or graduate-level physical assessment course from an accredited institution. Health assessment content integrated into other courses will NOT meet FNU requirements. See the Admissions Policies section of the FNU Catalog for more details. Your Enrollment Coordinator will notify you if you need to take N400 - Health Assessment as part of your MSN. A course syllabus may be requested upon admission to assist in this evaluation.

      - PGC Students -  FNU Admissions requires graduate-level Advanced Pharmacology, Advanced Physical Assessment and Advanced Pathophysiology across the lifespan (the "3Ps"). PGC students who, upon admission, have NOT successfully completed an acceptable Advanced Pharmacology, Advanced Physical Assessment or Advanced Pathophysiology across the lifespan will have the missing course(s) incorporated into their program of study. Program plans are developed based on previous graduate coursework. Course descriptions and syllabi may be requested to assist in this evaluation. Prepare to submit course descriptions and syllabi upon admission.

  • Submit ADA Accommodations Request (Optional) (click for expanded text)
    • If you require accommodations or have questions regarding accessibility for your on-campus visit to FNU, including mobility, access needs, or any other considerations, please contact Accessibility Services as soon as possible to begin making arrangements.

      Academic ADA Accommodations

FNU's policy for establishing academic accommodation for students can be found in the FNU Catalog under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 Policy.

FNU does not discriminate in admission to, access to, or participation in its programs or activities; the disclosure of a disability is voluntary. Students wishing to request academic accommodation due to a disability will be asked to provide documentation from a healthcare provider outlining how the disability limits their ability to function in the academic arena. The purpose of the documentation is to identify the appropriate services and/or accommodations.

Although academic accommodation can be requested at any time during one's academic career, newly admitted students are encouraged to begin the process of requesting accommodation before attending Frontier/DNP Bound orientation. Starting the process early will allow adequate time to get all approved accommodations in place before the first day of the term.

Students should contact Accessibility Services to begin the approval process: accessibility@frontier.edu

      Student Council Representatives

If you’ve enjoyed leadership in the past or are looking to gain some leadership experience during your graduate studies, nominating yourself for the FNU Student Council is an excellent way to get involved. RCF: Regional Clinical Faculty

Students in the MSN and PGC  programs are also assigned to a Regional Clinical Faculty, or RCF for short. RCFs are FNU faculty members who generally reside in your geographic region. The RCF is responsible for assisting you in preparing for the clinical experience and will serve as your primary advisor during your clinical coursework.

You can identify your assigned Regional Clinical Faculty here. As of the first day of your first term, you will also be able to see your assigned RCF on your Profile Banyan Tree Portal.

      Clinical Advisor

MSN and PGC students can consult with a clinical advisor as desired. Clinical advisors are staff members dedicated to helping students navigate the clinical search process and utilize FNU resources to locate clinical sites and preceptors. The clinical advisors are assigned by program track and can help you discern which site types are appropriate based on your program of study and understand university policy related to the clinical rotation.

You can identify your assigned Clinical Advisor here. As of the first day of your first term, you will also be able to see your assigned clinical advisor on your Profile Banyan Tree Portal.

      Course Coordinators and Course Faculty

In addition to the support listed above, FNU strives to support students via strong engagement and mentoring within the coursework. Each course at FNU has a designated faculty who serves as Course Coordinator. The Course Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of the course. Depending on the type of course, you may engage more with a specific course faculty who serves as your primary point of contact and grader within a given course. Students are encouraged to be active participants in their courses, communicate regularly with faculty, and ask clarifying questions to maximize the learning experience.

      Department Chairs & Clinical Directors

There are designated faculty responsible for administrative oversight and strategic planning for the academic departments and programs.

Department Chairs - provide leadership and direction for the academic departments; there is one Department Chair for each specialty track (CNEP, WHNP, FNP, PMHNP)

Clinical Directors - provide leadership and direction for the clinical component of the MSN and PGC programs; there is one Clinical Director for each specialty track (CNEP, WHNP, FNP, PMHNP)

You can identify the Department Chair and Clinical Director of your specialty track here.

      PROGRAMS OF STUDY

The current FNU Programs of Study can be found on the Registrar Portal pageThe Program of Study (POS) is a roadmap that demonstrates one path for how a student can complete all the degree requirements within a certain timeframe.

Here are a few things to consider as you think about how to register for that first term of courses and how to plan for your eventual graduation.

      - FNU teaches every course, every term, and they never fill up. This allows students who need to deviate from the published POS to either slow down or speed up their academic timeline as needed, provided course prerequisites allow.

      - All FNU coursework is asynchronous, meaning there isn't a specific time or place you need to be during the term. You complete the work when it is best for you, per the due dates in the syllabus.

      - Full-time study at FNU is 5 or more credits in a term. During the didactic portion of the degree, anyone completing two courses (generally 6-7 credits) is considered full-time.

      - FNU teaches the equivalent of semester credits (typically delivered in a 16-week semester) on a shortened time frame (FNU's 11-week term). Our courses carry a lot of content and we move quickly. FNU has been delivering distance education since 1989 and in a term-based system since 2007. Our faculty are skilled at teaching in this manner and our students are successful. But as you think about how much time you must dedicate to your studies in your first term, keep this pacing in mind to create a realistic plan for incorporating study time into your existing life schedule.

      - Be sure to consider the clinical expectations as you prepare for the clinical experience by reviewing the Clinical Policies in the FNU Catalog.

      - FNU has policies to allow for course withdrawal, course add/drop, incomplete grades, and Academic Hiatus (aka term off from taking courses). We expect students to take advantage of these options when/if things start sliding sideways in a term. Your academic advisor and course faculty are available to assist in these situations.

      - As you begin the program, we encourage you to focus on the anticipated Clinical Bound term as the pace-setter instead of the end of the program. Set your sights on when you want to begin your clinical rotation, and we know graduation will be sure to follow soon after.

      DEGREE AUDIT

Because students can move through the programs at their own pace, once you enroll in courses we will stop using the POS as a reference and will instead shift to using a degree audit. Your degree audit will be created by your academic advisor and will map your unique and specific progress through the degree requirements. Our goal is for you to know at all times what lies ahead and when you can anticipate coming back to campus for Clinical Bound and eventually graduating! Your academic advisor will share your customized degree audit with you closer to your first term of enrollment.
