Welcome

Welcome to the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL). We are excited to introduce our CITL faculty team and our functions for supporting you. We developed an email address that faculty can use to direct inquiries or comments to the CITL. Please use this email address (below) when you have questions about course design, course development, course alignment, simulations, or any other topics related to teaching and learning. We look forward to providing faculty support while we work with you on elevating our curriculum.

Mission:

The mission of the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) at Frontier Nursing University is to enhance student learning by using a variety of innovative strategies and sound teaching methods. The CITL supports excellence in teaching and learning methods to enhance engagement, active learning, and evaluation of learning remotely. The CITL provides leadership and expertise for faculty development and support to ensure Frontier Nursing University is able to educate all students, including rural and underserved students, using sound pedagogy and best practices. The CITL envisions faculty, staff, and students all working collaboratively to create environments in which all students learn.

Who We Are:

Rachel Risner ,Director

Associate Dean of Academic Affairs

  • Key contributor to the establishment and accomplishment of Frontier Nursing University (FNU) academic goals. 
  • Provides direction to the faculty to achieve the goals of FNU.
  • Provides leadership of the curriculum and oversees the development of the curriculum to ensure a quality that meets all the standards of the specialty certification bodies, accreditation bodies, and all regulatory bodies.
  • Knowledgeable concerning distance education practices and techniques and assists faculty and staff in remaining current concerning distance education practices and techniques. 
  • Takes responsibility as needed for applications and reports related to accreditation.

Tia Andrighetti, Simulation Coordinator and Innovation Coach

  • Development of active teaching methods and simulation activities

Audrey Perry, Curriculum and Course Design Coach

  • Serves as faculty support with resources to assess and revise courses
  • Collaborative problem solving with faculty members and CITL team
  • Assists in curriculum mapping and evaluation activities
  • Assists in course peer review process

Jaime Kuschert, Instructional Designer

Amy Stuart, Instructional Designer

  • Course design and evaluation
  • Canvas training, management, and administration

Gail Spake, Writing Specialist

  • Responds to faculty inquiries for language mechanics, style, and other writing issues
  • Reviews and edits course materials and professional documents as requested
  • Provides technical and editorial support and coaching

Cherie Lakes, LMS Coordinator

  • Maintains all courses in Canvas
  • Sets up new terms
  • Provides Faculty support for Canvas and other course-related issues
  • Contact point for issues related to Turnitin, Proctorio, and SignUpGenius

Academic and Scholarly Writing

In 2021, the Writing Across Curriculum subcommittee of the Curriculum Committee sponsored a series of training presentations for faculty in Lunch & Learn sessions devoted to teaching academic writing. Each presentation builds upon the previous session, and the series will continue in 2022. The sessions are on the 2nd and 8th Thursdays of each term at noon ET. All sessions are recorded and are available here  , along with links to slides and additional associated materials.
