The position will be part of an established midwifery clinical practice of ten midwives. Primary responsibilities for this position will be conducting postpartum rounds for a moderate to large population of low risk patients and responding to emergent inpatient obstetrical/postpartum events as needed. Educating patients on postpartum care, warning signs, follow-up and contraception will be the focus of this position. Additional responsibilities will include educating health care professional students and residents, developing educational and quality programs for postpartum care and participating in departmental and professional activities. This is a 40 hour/week position (8am-5pm), with rotating coverage for some weekends and holidays. Practice location is University of North Carolina Women’s Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. Responsible for providing direct clinical treatment services to consumers presenting mental illness and/or substance abuse related disorders.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of Psychiatric Services in an inpatient/outpatient setting.

  • Provides evaluation and medication maintenance services to RCMH consumers.

  • Prescribe, direct, or administer clinically sound treatment plans in accordance with DMH/RCMH standards and Hospital Bylaws.

  • Provides consultation and direction to physicians, nurses, social workers and other professional staff.

  • Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from patients, relatives or other professionals.

  • Demonstrates diagnostic skills and provides consultation to clinical staff in recommendations for referral to appropriate treatment programs.

  • Examine, analyze, or conduct laboratory or diagnostic tests to evaluate patient data to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorder and general physical condition related to mental status.

  • Performs daily dictation and ensures adequate clinical and billable documentation to client electronic record as necessary.

  • Conducts continuing education training to staff and well as the community as necessary.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of psychopharmacology by prescribing medications to consumers as indicated by diagnosis.  

  • Monitors efficacy of prescribed medications.

  • Advise or inform guardians, relatives or significant others of patients conditions or treatment.

  • Maintains current knowledge of psychotropic medications and interfaces with drug reps as needed.

  • Rotates 24 hour emergency call with other staff Psychiatrists/CRNP’s, and maintains 24 hour availability while assigned to emergency on-call status.

  • Interfaces with legal/court systems, consults with Court Liaison, and appears in court cases as required.

  • Functions within a team dynamic, and serves on/and consistently attend RCMH/Hospital committee meetings as necessary.

  • Organizes work schedule and appointments in order to maximize productivity and minimize down-time.

 

Supervision Required:

 

  • Works under the Collaborative Practice Agreement of a License Physicians.  Works under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer. Employee works with minimal supervision and exhibits discretionary judgment and cognitive skills.

 

Experience/Training

  • Currently Licensed CRNP in the State of Alabama.

  • Current Controlled Substance Certification for State of Alabama.

  • Current DEA certification.

  • Master’s degree in nursing.

  • Maintains Continuing Medical Education as required by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

  • Credentialed to provide billable services under Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and other third party insurers.

 

Skills Necessary:

  • Advanced knowledge of mental illness diagnoses, signs, and symptoms according to the most recent DSM criteria.

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple-tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to read and understand medical orders.

  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to accurately document in consumers electronic record.

  • Ability to handle crisis situations in a calm and professional manner.

  • Well defined organizational skills in order to facilitate a productive and efficient work environment.

  • Desire to work with seriously mentally ill population.

The primary purpose of the Certified Nurse-Midwife is to provide care to patients with health maintenance, preventive health measures and health education services, as well as manage the inpatient admission, labor management, delivery, and discharge of essentially normal and moderate risk patients in collaboration with a consulting OB/GYN.   • Initiates requests for consultation or referral with appropriate professionals, clinics, or other health care resources as indicated according to current policy.

  • Maintains a current DEA prescribing license.

  • Maintains hospital privileges in good standing at North Collier Hospital.

  • Performs other related duties as indicated or when requested by supervisor or medical director.

  • Completes documentation and reviews labs in a timely fashion using electronic medical records.

  • Maintains contact with peers thru electronic communication and/or phone.

  • Attends OB/GYN department meetings and HCN provider meetings
