Biography
Dr. Sharanna Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Frontier Nursing University. She is a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with extensive experience in primary care, psychiatry, and telehealth. Dr. Johnson is dedicated to advancing nursing practice through evidence-based care, quality improvement, and the development of compassionate, resilient nurse leaders.
In her faculty role, Dr. Johnson mentors DNP students through the design, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement projects that enhance care delivery and patient outcomes. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes reflective practice, scholarly inquiry, and the integration of research into clinical decision-making. She is committed to cultivating critical thinking, leadership, and advocacy skills in students, empowering them to drive meaningful change in diverse healthcare settings.
Dr. Johnson’s areas of expertise include person-centered care, quality improvement science, clinician well-being, and the integration of behavioral health into primary care practice. Her scholarly interests focus on improving depression and anxiety management through standardized screening tools, promoting effective and patient-centered care models, and addressing provider burnout using the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Joy in Work framework. She incorporates the Institute of Medicine (IOM) quality domains and SQUIRE guidelines into her teaching to strengthen students’ ability to measure, report, and sustain quality outcomes.
