Biography
I have been a full-scope CNM for 21 years and, in the last few years, have transitioned to clinic-only. My first practice was a physician-managed hospital practice for ten years at Choices West in upstate NY. My second practice was a midwifery-managed Birth Center with hospital privileges which transitioned to an alongside midwifery unit in Tucson, Arizona. I have led and participated in contract negotiations for the midwifery practice, taught NRP for 20 years, and became an advanced Centering Pregnancy facilitator.
My educational background consists of: Doctor of Nursing Practice, FNU, 2014; Master of Nursing, State University of New York, Stony Brook, 1998; and Bachelor of Nursing, Boston College, 1984.
Teaching is something I am passionate about, and once I obtained my DNP, I set out to teach advanced practice nurses, specifically midwives. Over 20 years of hospital and birth center experience have given me the knowledge and confidence I now feel I can share with my students. My areas of expertise include ante-, intra-, and postpartum care, as well as Centering Pregnancy. My second love is Quality Improvement - it's hard work but exciting, never dull, and constantly a challenge.
Lastly, I am married to a wonderfully supportive husband, with three adult children who are now all living on the West Coast. I have played in the Foothills Philharmonic (flute) for five years and volunteered at the Botanical Gardens in Tucson. My last move, I think, is here to Portland, Oregon, where I can pursue all outdoor activities and love my volunteer work at an equine therapy ranch.
