Biography

I have been a nurse for over 50 years and a nurse educator for 45 years. My teaching experience includes associate degree, pre-licensure baccalaureate, RN to BSN and graduate programs. During this time, I taught in both traditional, ground-based programs and online settings. I was instrumental in creating the first online program for Paramedics-RNs in the early 1990s, which later expanded to an LPN to RN program. In 2003, along with a colleague, I founded the Nova Southeastern University nursing program. I started with Frontier Nursing University in March, 2019. I was raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania and like many of you, am a life-long learner. I received my BSN from American University in Washington, my MSN in community health and administration from the University of Miami, and my doctorate in higher education from Florida International University. I hold the coveted Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and in 2010 was inducted as a Fellow into the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education. Florence Nightingale said, “A nurse is never finished.” To that end, my most recent accomplishment occurred when I completed a Post-Master’s Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner! I dreamed of achieving this for many years. My clinical expertise is in neuroscience nursing; however I developed an interest in immunological disorders and presently I work in a private rheumatology practice once a week. I am committed to nursing practice and education and feel strongly about giving future advanced practice nurses a strong foundation ensuring patient safety and positive patient outcomes. I believe that in order to accomplish this objective we need to produce an innovative and enthusiastic group of nurse practitioners who challenge the system, think outside the box and whose knowledge, skills and expertise are grounded in evidence-based practices. My personal interests include outdoor activities such as canoeing and white-water rafting, and horseback riding. For quiet and relaxation I enjoy reading mystery and spy novels. I am married, have two adult children and three adorable grandchildren whom I adore!
