Greetings FNU Community,
Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, existing health inequities and health disparities are masked along with the enduring racially charged events that have persisted for 400 years in the U.S. There is a great deal of social and political unrest present due to these events. People are also experiencing pain, anger, fear, and anxiety as a result, and some are risking it all to come together as one to stand up for what is right.
As a woman of African American descent with children of African American descent, I am more afraid for our lives than ever. As a nation and community, we must work together and stand for what is right. I want to challenge everyone to think about the current events surrounding the unrest. Keep an open mind, step out of your world, and think about how you can impact change one day at a time to improve our nation and the greater Frontier Nursing University community. Is it assessing your bias first, thinking before you act, making a phone call, writing a letter, sending an email, talking to someone, creating a platform, voting, holding a meeting, completing diversity, equity, and inclusion training for better understanding, completing your studies to serve diverse, underserved, and rural communities, performing community services, etc.?
We must stand as one through our philosophy, the Culture of Caring and continue to propel diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to the forefront of our actions as a community that creates health care professionals which can be a strong voice in equity. “Diversity, equity, and inclusion are the keys to the future success of the health care delivery system and the nation. Equity for all!” We must continue to work toward making sure everyone feels they socially and economically belong in Frontier Nursing University and in this nation.
The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at Frontier Nursing University supports the entire community. The goal of the Office of DEI is to ensure students, faculty, and staff are provided with an environment that promotes DEI and encourages the success of all community members. If you are experiencing any DEI issues, feel free to contact the Office of DEI at diverity-inclusion@frontier.edu or 859-321-4763. If you call and there is no answer, please leave a message.
Sincerely,
