Biography
Heidi is a certified family nurse practitioner and certified nurse-midwife with degrees from Juniata College, Yale School of Nursing, Frontier Nursing University, and the Midwifery Institute at Thomas Jefferson University. Her recently published doctoral research focused on understanding midwifery students' experiences of mistreatment in clinical settings and their impact on midwifery students.
Heidi has practiced clinically in community health centers and in large healthcare organizations as a family nurse practitioner and as a certified nurse-midwife. She has attended women in labor at home, in community hospitals, and in tertiary healthcare centers. Additionally, across a variety of settings, she has supported the development of midwifery teams, integration with local community birth partners, precepted student nurse practitioners, student nurse-midwives, and family medicine residents, served as field supervisor for women’s studies students, and participated in a Chilean community health education program. She currently volunteers in women's health at a local clinic serving under- and uninsured residents.
She is delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of midwifery and women's health nurse practitioner workforce in the US by supporting students and their preceptors individually and collectively. In addition to teaching, scholarship, and continued clinical practice, Heidi co-chairs the Wellness & Sustainability Committee and serves on the Curriculum Committee at Frontier Nursing University.
