Spring 2026 IHI Event
Date and Time: April 29, 2026, 7 pm-8 pm
Topic: Seeing the Whole Student: Evidence‑Based Neurodiversity Approaches for Nursing Faculty
Speaker: Dr. Megan Arbour
Description: Nursing education is rapidly evolving to better support neurodivergent learners, yet faculty often vary widely in their understanding of what “counts” as neurodivergence and how best to teach this diverse student population. In this presentation, Dr. Megan Arbour will share findings from her team’s recent research on faculty preparedness to teach neurodivergent students, including a secondary analysis exploring which diagnoses faculty identify as neurodivergent. Participants will also learn how to apply a neurodiversity‑affirming lens and incorporate trauma‑informed pedagogy to create learning environments that enhance equity, accessibility, and belonging. Importantly, increasing equity does not diminish quality or expectations for students. This session provides practical insights and evidence‑based strategies that nursing faculty can immediately bring back to their classrooms.
