International Day of the Midwife
May 5, 2021
Dear Frontier Community,
As a leader in nurse-midwifery education for 82 years, FNU offers the oldest and largest continually operating nurse-midwifery education program in the United States. For that reason, we are especially proud to celebrate the International Day of the Midwife on May 5, 2021. Our nurse-midwifery program continues to thrive year after year, even during the pandemic. In 2020, we welcomed 396 new nurse-midwifery students and congratulated 246 nurse-midwifery graduates. In total, our nurse-midwifery students attended 6,296 births in 2020. We are so proud of the impact all of our nurse-midwifery students and graduates are having on the health and well-being of women and children especially in rural and underserved communities across the country. The United States continues to battle a maternal mortality crisis, and we know that our graduates are playing a large role in the solution. We celebrate nurse-midwives every day, but ask that you please join us on this International Day of the Midwife in honoring all of our nurse-midwives, both past and present. We thank each and every one of them for their incredible skill, caring, and dedication.
