Keeping Your Computer Up-to-date
Please take a few moments to look over this guide and ensure your computer’s software is up-to-date. Software updates and security patches provide improvements to the performance, stability, and security of the software on your computer. This is an essential part of protecting sensitive information such as student records, employment records, and information that could lead to identity theft.
Windows 10
To check for OS (Operating System) updates: Click the Windows Start button, then Settings.
In Settings, click Update & Security.
Click Check for updates.
If there are updates, they will begin downloading. Some updates are installed automatically and some require a restart. If you are prompted to install updates or restart your computer, please do so.
If there are no updates you will see the message You’re up to date.
You can also download and install optional updates by clicking View optional updates and then selecting any updates you want to receive. Unless advised otherwise, it is recommended to run any available updates.
Sophos Endpoint (Staff Anti-Virus)
To check for Sophos updates: Right-click the Sophos icon in your system tray, then select About.
Click Update Now
If updates are available, they will begin downloading. Restart the computer after the updates are installed.
Windows Security (Non-Staff Anti-Virus)
If you have Windows 10 without an anti-virus, windows will automatically enable Windows Security.
To update Windows Security, use Windows 10 Update.
Zoom
To update Zoom: Open the Zoom Client on your computer ⇒ click your profile picture in the upper-right corner ⇒ click Check for Updates.
If there are any updates, Zoom will download and install them.
Google Chrome
To update Chrome: Click the Chrome menu button, then select Help > About Google Chrome.
On the About page, Chrome will automatically check for updates and begin downloading any that are available.
Once updates have finished downloading, click Relaunch to apply the updates and restart Google Chrome.
General Application Updates
Most applications have a menu option to check for updates, usually under Help. The example shown below is Adobe Acrobat Reader but is applicable to most applications.
Mac OSX
To install updates manually on your Mac, do one of the following:
- Click the Apple menu 
or
- Click the Apple menu 
To update software downloaded from the App Store, click the Apple menu
