Biography

Gail Spake joined Frontier Nursing University in August 2014 to provide assistance to administration, faculty and staff in developing, improving and using their scholarly writing skills. She assists faculty in their efforts to teach writing skills to students. She also supports administration with technical writing and editing for university reports and publications. Gail earned a Master of Arts in Professional Writing, and subsequently received training as a medical editor and as a grant manager/writer.

Prior to joining FNU, Gail worked with a college of nursing at a major state university supporting faculty and graduate students with scholarly writing and grant development and submissions. She taught as an instructor in a scholarly writing course, developed and presented in writing workshops, and coached faculty who developed manuscripts for publication. She served as a scientific editor, both with the university and with a freelance business privately for publishing nurses and a non-profit agency.

Gail considers it a privilege to support nurses and midwives in their efforts as leaders, educators, and communicators. Her favorite role is de-mystifying the process of writing because nurses’ voices make an important difference in health care.
