Staff Spotlight: Shelley Aldridge

At the heart of Frontier Nursing University is a talented and diverse community of students, alumni, faculty, staff, Couriers and preceptors. Spotlight blogs feature members of our FNU community that are focused on the mission of educating nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners to deliver quality health care to underserved and rural populations.

After graduating from the University of Kentucky, Shelley Aldridge found the perfect workplace to begin her career – Frontier Nursing University (FNU).

Fresh out of college in 1999, Shelley applied for a administrative assistant position at FNU. She landed an interview with FNU President Dr. Susan Stone, who was at that time the program director of the nurse-midwifery program.

“I was inspired by her vision of healthcare for women and families in the United States, and I was intrigued by the world of midwifery - which I pronounced wrong in the interview, and she very politely corrected me,” said Shelley.

Shelley got the job and quickly learned the ropes, proving herself to be an effective leader. In 2010, Shelley was promoted to chief operations officer, where she has been thriving ever since.

Working behind the scenes at FNU, Shelley enjoys a different perspective than most. She loves to solve problems and overcome challenges on the business side of operations, and her team is always working to improve processes. Shelley encourages her employees to enjoy their time at FNU and provides them with the tools they need to be successful.

“Everyone at Frontier lives and breathes our mission to improve access to quality healthcare by educating future nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners,” said Shelley.

When she’s not working hard at FNU, Shelley enjoys camping, cooking, hiking and swimming with her husband of 16 years and their two young daughters.

The FNU community is proud to have Shelley serving as our COO.
