Biography

Marion McCartney, CNM, has served on the Board of Directors of the Frontier Nursing Service and Frontier Nursing University for over ten years. Since the mid 1970s, she has been working in the field of midwifery where she opened a nurse midwifery owned private practice that included homebirth, hospital birth, and Birth Center options for women in the Washington, DC area. After opening that practice, she served as the second president of the American Association of Birth Centers, an organization which develops national standards for freestanding birth centers, works with state officials to create appropriate licensing laws, and assists in the development of new birth centers throughout the United States. Additional professional pursuits included her work as the Director of Professional Services at the American College of Nurse Midwives, a national organization which sets professional standards for the education and practice of nurse midwifery and midwifery in the United States and consults on state and federal legislation governing the practice and federal reimbursement of midwifery care.  Ms. McCartney is also the mother of four and grandmother of five.

AABC develops national standards for freestanding birth centers, works with state health officials to create appropriate licensing laws and assists in the development of new birth centers throughout the US. AABC also promotes insurance payments for birth center care.

This is the national organization which sets professional standards for the education and practice of nurse midwifery and midwifery in the United States. It also consults on state and federal legislation governing the practice and federal reimbursement of midwifery care.

Personal
 Married Jack McCartney in 1966. We have four wonderful children and five beautiful grandchildren.
